On the hilltop

Sun smiled and scattered clouds watched with silence. The flowers she touched as she glided over the path that led to the hilltop smiled and danced. Butterflies followed her like she was the flower, not those that were grown along the path.

Cheki smiled and her eyes set to the hilltop told happiness only she can have. Her dimpled cheeks winked at the surrounding. Her little heart pumped fast and hard against the ribs with excitement. She, in her brocade tego, yellow wonju and simple blue woven kira, looked enchanting though she hadn’t worn them well in eagerness and hurry.

Ugyen, her friend, stopped and said, “I can reach you till here. Best of luck and …” She ended with a teary smile. She too was nervous. Her fingers fidgeted each other.

“Ya ya,” Cheki answered with her soft voice and proceeded. She soon became just a speck on the hill top. Ugyen tried to think how Cheki would be feeling as she approached nearer and nearer her true love but failed. Ugyen hasn’t loved anybody like Cheki did.

Cheki would dream of her love and she even woke Ugyen out of sleep quite many times. Once, she called his name out loud that both woke up together and got frightened seeing each other. Ugyen recollected this memory and a tear drop popped out the corner of her shut eyes.

Number of birds flew past the hilltop with loud chirps. Ugyen came back to sense and her heart beat increased.

A helicopter landed on the hilltop accompanied by gush of wind and dusts. It was hard to stand against it but Cheki did. As the rotor slowed down, the window slowly flung open. Her desire to welcome him with her true love surged that she rushed towards the window.

As soon as handsome young men landed on the ground, he was embraced with tightest hug he would get nowhere else on earth. He promptly reacted with his hug and he bent his head to rest on her shoulder and brush her hair against her neck. Cheki gave her happy sobs. He cupped her chin, raised it, cleared her hairs and looked at her closed moist eyes and smiled.

The machine’s sound died. “You don’t want to take me to your parents?” he whispered into her ears. The birds welcomed her love.

“Tenzin, I missed you so much.” She smiled like an innocent child as she opened her eyes. “Come let’s go,” she offered and stuck to the side of his chest. They walked down the hill.

Ugyen was watching without blinking her eyes that through her irritated eyes she could see two figures as one descending the hill. Her happiness leapt. She waved her hands in frenzy and shouted, “Don’t be late,” and ran down.

Tenzin and Cheki saw her and smiled. “My best friend,” she said, “She’s informing your arrival.” After saying that, she stole out of his hold and ran down laughing. Tenzin chased her, his love and his life.
